Client Need
The American Family Institute for Corporate and Social Impact (AmFam Institute) is a venture capital firm investing in scalable solutions that advance equity in the U.S. The Institute needed a partner to source early-stage climate tech startups that align with its mission—supporting economic opportunity, resilient communities, and the future of work.
Services Delivered
Powerhouse Innovation provided Sourcing services by leveraging our proprietary data and network to identify and evaluate more than 200 startups addressing climate mitigation, adaptation, and workforce opportunity. We then developed a short list of best fit startups tailored to the Institute’s investment criteria, with accompanying insights to support internal investment discussions.
Outcome Achieved
Powerhouse Innovation identified Ivy Energy as a strong fit for the AmFam Institute’s investment thesis and facilitated an introduction. The result: AmFam invested in Ivy, a startup whose virtual grid platform unlocks access to rooftop solar for renters while creating new revenue streams for building owners. Ivy’s model addresses the split incentive in multifamily housing and aligned closely with AmFam’s focus on equity, resilience, and scalable climate solutions.
