Client Need
DNV, a global leader in assurance and risk management, partnered with Powerhouse Innovation to identify high-potential startups advancing the energy transition. DNV needed a partner to expand sourcing of innovative startups in areas that enhance competitiveness for both DNV and its clients.
Services Delivered
Powerhouse Innovation provided Sourcing services to DNV Ventures by identifying strategic investment opportunities that address global challenges arising in the energy transition. Leveraging our extensive network and technical expertise, we:
Facilitated workshops to co-develop problem statements and map startup opportunity areas
Screened companies for strategic fit, market traction, and technical maturity
Facilitated warm introductions to founders for direct evaluation
This process helped DNV engage with high-quality startups positioned to complement their core expertise in power systems and energy markets.
Outcome Achieved
Powerhouse’s sourcing work led to DNV’s investment in Leap, a company tackling barriers to VPP participation and grid flexibility. Leap provides a single API for distributed energy resource (DER) partners—like smart thermostats, EV chargers, and batteries—to access grid services across jurisdictions. The platform also offers utilities and grid operators a simplified interface to aggregated DERs, increasing reliability and reducing the need for carbon-intensive peaker plants. Our work expanded DNV’s reach into grid services, creating new opportunities to support clients across the energy value chain and strengthening their advisory offerings.
