Emily spoke to Sheldon about his journey from growing up in South Africa and Ohio, to studying at Kenyon College and going to business school, and eventually working in the trenches of clean energy development, where he formed a vision for fast, flexible infrastructure that challenges the status quo. That vision became Intersect Power, which he founded in 2016 to deliver large-scale clean electricity to the industries that need it most. Intersect has raised over $2 billion in equity, operates $4 billion in assets—including one of the largest battery fleets in the country—and is breaking ground on $9 billion more, with major customers like Google and Microsoft.
Sheldon Kimber has over 20 years of experience in energy, finance, development, and entrepreneurship, and is the CEO and Founder of Intersect. Under his leadership, Intersect has become one of the largest developers, owners, and operators of the world’s largest grid-tied clean energy resources, as well as co-located facilities for large industrial loads, including data centers and other energy-intensive products. Intersect operates ~$4B of solar and storage assets and has started to break ground on an additional ~$9B of assets in 2025.
"Regarding OBBB, what people in the Bay Area and in renewables don’t understand is that we're not being viciously singled out guys, this is exactly what the Biden administration did to natural gas, down to the Trump administration using the exact same words from Biden’s executive orders. It was very purposeful, and they have a point. Energy should not be a culture war. It’s too important to humanity. It’s too important to society. The number one threat to decarbonization is the constant whipsaw back and forth based on the politicization of energy and infrastructure."
